Spiritual Diet

Titled: My first meditation
I became a mommy on the 6th July 2011. I began a spiritual diet on the 13th of October and maintained a spiritual practice for 41 days that entailed a morning practice of yoga, breathing exercises and an evening practice of pranayam and a thirty minute run on the treadmill at the Gym. I also added a three fifteen minute meditation practice at morning, afternoon and evening.  On the 42 days that I practice my diet I went cold turkey on all books except those that would help me stay positive, spiritual and mindful. The books I read were Peace is Every Step: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life by Thich Nhat Hanh  (To visit Nhat Hanh's website go to: Plum Village) and  Going to Pieces Without Falling Apart by Mark Epstein.  While on the diet I also maintained a spiritual diary on my blog. My spiritual diet was life changing to say the least. I moved from a place of restlessness, confusion and noise to mindfu lness, contemplation and practice and I continue to experience and benefit from a steady practice, thanks to my spiritual diet. I believe that you need the support of a Guru, a friend and an anchor for spiritual practice and my parents continually provide this presence for me. Anika, my baby girl and my husband are daily reminders for my practice and I learn and grow because of them all.
